Their name literally means “badger dog.”
They were selectively bred to hunt burrowing animals, which explains:

All coat types benefit from nail trimming and dental care. - Back Health & SafetyBecause of their long backs, dachshunds are prone to spinal issues if not properly managed.
We strongly recommend:
• Preventing jumping off furniture
• Using ramps when possible
