When I was 15, I was gifted a red Kaninchen (Rabbit) Dachshund Puppy. Kaninchen is the German variety of dachshunds used for hunting rabbits and rats, and they are tiny, weighing only 6- 8 lbs. Iriska was everything a teen girl would want in a companion. Hilarious, active, and easy to transport in a bicycle basket. I taught Iriska how to bark in "whispers" on public transport. And then the tragedy struck, and she was lost while in a relative's care.
- Back to DoxiesIn 2000, my family immigrated to the USA, and I began my journey with miniature poodles shortly after, establishing well-regarded Moonrise Poodles. Over two decades of working with miniature poodles, I have gained extensive experience in the art and science of breeding and raising healthy, conformationally correct dogs, raising puppies in ways that support great temperament, and supporting the needs of puppy owners so they succeed with my puppies.
In 2022, I was introduced to the longhaired variety of miniature dachshunds, and being in their presence felt like coming home. They are so gentle, affectionate, spicy, but not overwhelming or sharp. Over time, this slow-burning feeling turned into purpose: studying the breed standard, dachshund-specific health testing, and searching for the foundation dogs. Today, I raise puppies that meet breed standards and have stable temperaments.
